When Luci and Alex reached out about a maternity session, I couldn’t have been more honored. These two weren’t just clients — they were my bosses at Boia De!, which I’ll proudly and shamelessly say is the best restaurant in Miami. I always felt so lucky to be part of that team, and to now document such a monumental milestone in their lives felt like everything had come full circle.

We photographed at their beautiful home in North Miami, right in the thick of Miami’s rainy season. The light shifted from bright noon sun to storm clouds, and we even embraced the downpour for some shots with rain falling in the background. It gave the images this unexpected drama that paired beautifully with the joy of the day.

This session was shot on both digital and medium format film using my beloved Mamiya c220 (It also conveniently doubled as a prop!) — which gave us a range of tones and textures that matched the different moods we captured. From intimate, quiet moments to champagne-popping fun in the pool, the photos reflect who Luci and Alex are: lively, full of character, and deeply in love.

One of my favorite parts was leaning into the retro vibe Luci envisioned for the shoot. With her styling and the energy they brought, it felt like we were creating something timeless yet playful — the kind of images that don’t just capture a pregnancy, but capture them.

What made this shoot feel extra special was the comfort and trust we shared. Yes, I had the unique privilege of working for Luci and Alex in the restaurant world, but I strive to bring that same sense of ease to every client. My sessions aren’t just about taking photos, they’re about creating an experience together, connecting, and walking away with images that feel as real as the moment itself.
